Where to Park for Gilfenklamm Gorge

For your hike through the Gilfenklamm, you have several parking options to choose from. Two of these are located in the village of Stange and are ideally situated if you plan to experience the classic gorge walk starting from the bottom. Alternatively, there is a third parking area located above the gorge in the Ratschings Valley, which is a great choice for those preferring to start their descent from the upper end.

The Best Parking Option: P1 Near the Entrance in Stange

The most convenient place to leave your vehicle is the P1 parking lot, located directly next to the main road in Stange. If you are traveling from Sterzing toward Ridnaun, you will find this unpaved gravel lot on the left side of the road. It is officially designated for visitors to the gorge and even features a public restroom for your convenience. You can easily plan your journey by using the Google map to navigate directly to this spot.

The Alternative: P2 at the Stange Sports Zone

During the peak summer season or on beautiful sunny days, the P1 lot can fill up quite quickly. In such cases, the parking area at the local sports zone is your best alternative. This lot offers significantly more space for vehicles and is located only about 500 meters further from the entrance, adding just a short walk to your overall route. Parking in the Ratschings Valley at Jaufensteg

If you are spending your holiday directly in the Ratschings Valley, the Jaufensteg parking lot is the perfect choice for you. Since it is situated at the top of the gorge, it saves you the drive down to Stange, allowing you to begin your hike from the upper entrance and walk downwards. However, if you are coming from Sterzing or are already in Stange, this option makes less sense as it requires several extra kilometers of uphill driving. Essential Rules for Using the Parking Lots

All three parking areas are open to cars, motorcycles, and motorhomes, providing flexibility for all types of travelers. It is important to note, however, that staying overnight or camping is strictly prohibited at every location. Currently, parking for the Gilfenklamm remains free of charge. To help ensure it stays this way in the future, please respect the camping ban and make sure to take all your trash with you when you leave.
